The hull design of the Saroche was the first commercial barge design to be purpose built to be driven by internal combustion engine power. Hence the word "Luxe" (luxury) motor.
This style of hull was very popular in Holland during the 1920's and 1930's most of the hulls were built at lengths of 25 to 30 metres. Saroche is one of the few that were built to a length of 39 metres for trading and cruising in France and is one of a very few with the original length still afloat.
As 70% of a barge trip is spent on deck. So it is important to have good deck space. Saroche has one of the largest panoramic terraces on any barge offering wonderful views of the unspoilt countryside, whether al-fresco dining, enjoying an aperitif, indulging in Bubbles du Jour or star gazing by the fire pit.
With some of the highest ceiling of any hotel barge in the world and together with the opening panoramic windows, impressive skylight, the air-conditioned dinning room and salon is a magnificent light open and spacious area, where many wonderful meals will be enjoyed.
With a fully stocked open bar in the salon enjoying a pre dinner drink with family or friends is a great way to kick off the evening! Late at night take advantage of the comfortable salon and enjoy an after dinner drink whilst listening to music, reading a book or socialising with friends, family and the crew of the Saroche.
The three Art Deco cabins with individual en suite bathrooms are a triumph, unique in the barging world they set a new standard for both comfort and luxury with their compliment of Birdseye maple panelling and rich velvet wall coverings. Add to this the thick soft pile carpets, individually controlled air conditioning and original 1930’s art work, your comfort is guaranteed and a good nights sleep is assured.
Hosted by two of the most respected owner operators in the business. Captain Jason and Chef Dawn will share their love of all things French, whilst ensuring you relax and let your cares drift away. With over 30 years combined hotel barge experience owning and running the "Who Knows" it was a natural progression for them to move onto Saroche in 2015 and continue her illustrious career
